Creating perfect photos from slide and negative scans with ColorPerfect: Microtek, ArtixScan, ScanWizard
Increase the quality of your slide and negative scans from ScanWizard Pro TX with ColorPerfect! Find out more about how to scan with your Microtek ArtixScan. ColorPerfect processes scans with color integrity and gives unprecedented flexibility in creative image editing. To harness the full potential of our Photoshop Plug-in it's important to obtain image data that has been subjected to as little processing as possible (RAW data). The following tutorial gives a step by step explanation on how to achieve this with Microtek's ScanWizard Pro TX for ArtixScan scanners.
Creating linear scans of slides and negatives with Microtek's ScanWizard Pro TX
To create linear scans with ScanWizard Pro TX - which is the scanner software for Microtek's ArtixScan scanners - start the software and select the menu entry "Preferences > Working Color Spaces > Advanced" as shown below.
This will take you to the "Color Matching Setup" screen. On it make sure to disable "Native mode RGB color matching" and "Automatic Color Enhancement". You can also disable "Embed ICC destination profile in scan image". Alternatively you can use this option to assign your standard RGB working space to the scan so that you don't have to do this later in Photoshop, PSE or PhotoLine. Of course you can also always batch assign RGB working space profiles to any number of scans with our auxiliary program MakeTiff.
Next go to the Settings panel of the ScanWizard Pro TX window and choose scan as positive as the "Job". The input profile under that is irrelevant because you have turned all color processing off in the previous step. Set the type of the scan to "RGB Colors (48-bit)", disable "Auto Corrections", set D-Range to "Full Range", set the entries "W&B Points", "Tone Curve", "B & C" and "Color" to "No Correction" and set the entry "Filters" to "None". Finally turn off "Automatic Color Restoration". Now you should see the settings panel as shown to the right and you're good to go.
Use the Overview, Prescan and Scan Buttons along with the Job Panel to scan your color negatives or slides. For black and white negative film choose ScanWizard's 16 bit gray scale mode instead of 48 bit RGB.
To conclude we'd like to thank our user Borut Srebotnik cordially for providing us with the screen shots and instructions that let us produce this page.
